Volunteer Income Tax Assistance A new year brings a new tax season. For some, it means that yearly visit to your accountant’s office, or late nights trying to figure out which credits you are eligible to claim. But some working families in our communities do not think about tax returns; they are focused on getting the next meal on the table and paying this month’s rent. Wouldn’t it be great for these families to easily receive the tax benefits they are eligible to claim on their tax returns? Unfortunately, many lower-income families who qualify for tax benefits let federal funds go unclaimed by not knowing about the VITA program, not knowing if they are eligible to take advantage of this free service, or just because they are overwhelmed by the whole tax preparation process. The VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program aims to help alleviate this problem by mobilizing and training volunteers to provide free tax services to working individuals and their families. VITA assists taxpayers who are struggling to make ends meet by saving them the cost of tax preparation and helping them claim all the tax credits for which they are eligible. If you make generally less than $70,000/yr we encourage you to take advantage of this FREE service. 2025 VITA Tax Sites coming January 2025! 2025 tax site information per county linked below.
